3D city model for Rhino
A native .3dm file with the whole context of your site — ready for Grasshopper, renders and diagrams.
Open urban:EXPORT — free No sign-up · 3 areas a day up to 5 km² free · up to 100 km²
How to get it
- Open urban:EXPORT and find the place: search by city, address or coordinates, or drag the map.
- Choose the area shape — square, circle or a free rectangle — and its size (up to 100 km²).
- Pick the layers: buildings, roads, bridges, terrain, contours, water and green areas, trees.
- Press Create model. In about a minute you get a 3D preview, a drawing and the satellite image.
- Click Rhino (.3dm) and open the file in Rhino 5 or newer. Units are metres.
What you get
- Buildings as real extrusions (closed solids with faces and edges) where the shape allows, meshes otherwise.
- Terrain mesh, contour curves and road curves on separate layers.
- Trees as instances of one TREE block definition.
- Bridges, railways, water and green areas on their own layers.
Tips
- In Grasshopper reference the BUILDINGS layers to get footprints and heights for analysis.
- Use Make2D on the 3D model, or the built-in Vector illustration editor, for axonometric drawings.
Questions
Does it work with Rhino 8?
Yes. The file is written with rhino3dm and opens in Rhino 5, 6, 7 and 8 on Windows and Mac.
Can I get only the terrain?
Yes — switch off buildings, roads and other layers before building the model and download the terrain with contours.
